You hear a lot of talk these days about how good vegetables are for you. We are advised to eat a daily allowance of five portions of fruit and veg each day. But they cost a lot to buy at the supermarket – especially enough to keep all the family happy! And, despite all the supermarkets vying with each other to offer us low prices, they still charge a lot for vegetables. It is not uncommon for a couple of small lettuces to set you back over £1!

The most economical way of feeding your family healthy and wholesome vegetables is to grow your own! You’ll have the added benefit of knowing exactly where they’ve come from, and that they are as fresh and nutritious as they could possibly be. With this range of easy-to-grow vegetables, you’ll have a good variety to choose from. Most of the veg featured here will be ready to pick in about 12 weeks. Just Add Water

It’s that simple! All the seeds are pre-sown, so all you need to do is place the handy seed tray on a windowsill, 'just add water', put the lid on and within days your plants will begin to grow!

Once your plant plugs are established with some healthy roots, you can just pop them out of their tray - roots, compost and all - and plant them! Full instructions are supplied - you can't go wrong!

Sunday Lunch Vegetables

Vegetables taste so much better when they have just been picked or pulled from the ground. Vegetables on the Patio

If you find the idea of digging over and preparing a large area of garden really daunting, or if you don't have room in your garden for a big vegetable patch, then you should consider growing your vegetables in raised beds or in special planters. It will mean that your vegetables are much easier to tend and pick and it's amazing how much you can grow in a relatively small area!

Sow your vegetable selection at intervals and have a non-stop supply of your favourite veg all season! You can plant them in our handy raised beds, in pots, tubs and planters in your backyard, or on your patio or decking, making a decorative and - nutritious - display!

Herbs and Salads

Here at Thompson & Morgan, we know that a great salad needs 3 things - firstly, crisp, flavoursome salad leaves - some sweet-tasting lettuce as well as some strong and peppery rocket; secondly, a selection of colourful salad vegetables like beetroot, tomatoes and radishes and finally, a few leaves of aromatic herbs to add fragrance and contrast. So that's why we've put together a selection of salad veg and herbs because we think you might like to try your hand at growing your own delicious salad.

And the best part is that all these things are incredibly easy to grow - in a small area of garden, in pots or tubs on a patio - even on the kitchen windowsill. Potatoes and Onions

There’s simply no excuse not to grow your own potatoes and onions! You don’t need a large garden – grow them in our handy growing bags on the patio. There's something so satisfying about digging up your own potatoes and onions! As with all home-grown vegetables, they just taste SO much better than shop-bought varieties and you can be secure in the knowledge that they are completely fresh as well as more nutritious.

Berries and Currants

How satisfying to be able to pick handfuls of fresh berries that you have grown yourself. With the varieties that we've specially selected here, you can grow a wide range of tasty and colourful berries and currants - and you don't even need a large garden!

Many types of small soft fruit can be grown in pots or in our handy growing bags on patios or decking and once established, most varieties will go on producing fruit year after year! Eat them straight off the bush, add them to puddings and smoothies, make jams or pies - or freeze them to use later in the year.

Fruit Trees

Long Lasting Colour

Perennials. Simply plant them and…….enjoy! It's as simple as that. Perennials are basically plants that live for more than two years. (If it lives for just one year or less, then it's an annual). So they are just great for those who prefer sitting in their gardens rather than working in them!

You will see that some perennials are known as 'half-hardy' and these plants might need to be put in a frost-free garage or shed for the winter. It means that perennials are great value for money because once they are established and with just a little care, they will grow and flower year after year! What a good return on your investment!

Flowers for Cutting

Bring the glory of the garden into your home and fill your house with fragrance and colour! The flowers featured here are easy to grow, inexpensive and very productive - usually producing more and more flowers once you start picking them! They make wonderful garden plants as well as stunning cut flowers and will add beautiful summer colour to your beds as well as to your vases.

Climbing Plants

Climbing plants are great for bringing to life your garden trellises and arches as well as for disguising the less attractive parts of your garden! They will quickly cover a fence, climb up a wall (with just some garden wire to guide them) and onto a roof where they will flower spectacularly!

Passion flowers and clematis are easy to grow and require little maintenance, but are always rewarding in the speed of their growth and in the amazing quantities of beautiful flowers they produce.
